Apr 16, 2019 – The Crucifixion of Christ
In today’s program Matt discusses the history of crucifixion, including a medical perspective. The Crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth is one of the most well-documented events of antiquity! Saying that this person was not crucified is nonsense!!! Debating who Jesus was is a totally different subject.
The Crucifixion of Jesus was carried out by the Romans (crucifixion started with the Persians in 600 BC) on the demands of the Jews and their leadership (Matthew 27 & Mark 15)! It was carried out by professionals to make a cultural statement. It was a public display of torture, excruciating pain, humiliation, and cruelty.
Through the four gospels little is actually said about the Crucifixion in and of itself (John 19:16; Luke 23:33; Mark 15:22-25; Matthew 27:33-35). Much more is written about why the Crucifixion needed to be carried out. Galatians 3:10-14 is just one example.
(John 19:16; Luke 23:33; Mark 15:22-25; Matthew 27:22-23; Deuteronomy 21: 22-23; Galatians 3:10-14)
