The Christmas Story is about the work of the Holy Spirit, the creative participant in the birth. The mighty became small to bring their plan of salvation to mankind. (Matthew 1:16, 2:5; Psalms 139:7-10; Genesis 1:2; Job 33:4, 34:14; Psalms 104; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Matthew chapter 1 begins with the Genealogy of Christ which points to the promise given long before that the Savior would come. That promise is delivered in verse 18 God remained faithful to His promise (Matthew 1:1-25, 2:8, 7:7-8, 14:all)
The prophecy of Isaiah 9:6-7 is fulfilled in Matthew 1:22-25. God is faithful to his covenant with man. Christ was born, became flesh, to redeem the lost. The fact “that” — not “when” — Jesus was born proves God’s love and faithfulness to his covenant. The eternal message of hope, Christ is here. Mankind goes astray at birth (Psalms 51: 5). In Matthew 2 as spoken by the prophets, the wise men came to visit Jesus. The priests, scribes and Herod “all” knew this child who was born in Bethlehem of Judea! This coming King would have jurisdiction over all mankind. Herod sought to kill him because of this. The Christmas story is a story of Christ’s birth but also one of jurisdiction. (Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 2:1-20; Romans 1:1-4; Genesis 2)

Continuing in Philippians Paul instructs the Christians of Philippi how true righteousness is obtained. Using his own notoriety as an example Paul counts it as naught. To gain Christ is all that matters. (Philippians 3:1-14, 1:10, 21; Galatians 2:21, Jeremiah 9:23-24)
